WHEREAS, National Workforce Development Month, established in 2005 and observed each September, recognizes the vital role of workforce development in connecting individuals with opportunities, supporting businesses, and strengthening communities across the nation; and

 

WHEREAS, a skilled, trained, and adaptable workforce is essential to the Commonwealth's long-term economic prosperity and strengthens Virginia's businesses and industries as they compete in an evolving global economy; and

 

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is proud to be recognized as one of America's top states for business, reflecting the strength of its talent pipeline and supported by high-quality training programs, world-class community colleges and universities, and statewide partners; and

 

WHEREAS, local workforce development boards, community colleges, schools, employers, economic developers, veterans' services, and public agencies across Virginia play a vital role in expanding access to career pathways, strengthening regional economies, and helping Virginians secure sustainable employment; and

 

WHEREAS, Virginia Works coordinates the Commonwealth's workforce development system, connecting Virginians with career guidance, training, apprenticeships, and upskilling opportunities while helping employers build talent pipelines to meet evolving workforce needs; and

 

WHEREAS, continued investment in workforce development expands access to education and training for high-demand careers, strengthens families and businesses, and advances the Commonwealth's economic competitiveness; and

 

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia honors the professionals, educators, employers, and partners who provide career guidance, skill training, employment services, and essential support that uplift Virginians and strengthen the Commonwealth's future.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 2026 as WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
